Approval as an examiner - Queensland


You will need this approval to conduct approved inspections of vehicles to ensure they are free of defects and safe to use on the road. This approval will allow you to inspect a combination of light and heavy vehicle types, including:

  • motorcycles
  • light vehicles (LV)
  • light vehicle certificate of inspections (COI)
  • light trailer
  • heavy vehicle
  • heavy trailer.

You will be required to comply with the 'Vehicle inspection guidelines (for light vehicles)' and the 'National heavy vehicle inspection manual (for heavy vehicles)' code of practice.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this licence, you will need to meet the appropriate:

  • technical requirements
  • experience requirements
  • suitability criteria - as part of the approval process you will be subject to a criminal history check.

Criminal history reports issued directly to applicants by the Queensland Police Service (QPS) will not be accepted as part of your approved examiner application: you are required to pay the department's criminal history check fee, and they will obtain the check on your behalf.

If you do not meet the technical qualifications, you may be able to obtain one through recognition of prior learning (RPL) by a registered training organisation (RTO).
