The main purpose of regulating advertising signs is to ensure they are constructed and maintained to ensure public safety and that they complement the surrounding environment. Advertising signs may be temporary, mobile or permanent. The approval also considers any structure forming part of the sign and its location on the building/property on which it is to be erected.
Temporary Advertising Devices:
Temporary advertising devices (i.e. A-frames, real estate signs, directional signs etc) can be located on public land or council or state-controlled roads without approval from council if they meet the general conditions and specific conditions for the location area where they are to be placed.
Note: Approval will not be given for temporary signage that is outside these conditions. This does not extend to trailers with advertising signage. Refer to the relevant fact sheet for general and specific area conditions available on the Council website below.
