Aquatic event authority - Queensland

Description

You will need this authorisation to host an on-water activity including any of the following:

  • boat races
  • swimming races
  • sailing regattas
  • waterskiing competition
  • fireworks displays.

Maritime Safety Queensland is responsible for the management of aquatic events in Queensland waterways, except for Gold Coast waterways. If you intend to hold an event in Gold Coast waterways, you must lodge your application with the Gold Coast Waterways Authority.

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this authority, you must:

  • have a safety management plan and emergency response procedure
  • have public liability insurance of at least $20 million for the proposed event.

If a fireworks display is part of the proposed aquatic event, you will need to notify Resources Safety and Health Queensland.
