Biodiscovery collection authority - Queensland

Description

You will need this authority to take small amounts of native biological resources (e.g. plants, animals, fungi and micro-organisms that are native to Australia) from State land or Queensland waters for the purpose of seeking to identify bioactive compounds that may be used for commercial purposes (e.g. pharmaceuticals and insecticides).

Eligibility requirements

Depending on the conditions placed on your authority and the commercial use of collected resources, you may need to:

  • meet all or some of the requirements of the compliance code
  • reach a benefit sharing agreement with the Department
  • develop a biodiscovery plan.

The authority lapses a year after it is issued if a benefit sharing agreement is not entered into within that period.
