Bookmaker's licence - Queensland

Description

You will need this licence to receive or negotiate bets for thoroughbred, harness and greyhound racing. You will be bound by the relevant by-laws, regulations, associations and rules for racing. There are two categories of licence:

  • corporate bookmaker - if you intend to form and operate as a bookmaking business
  • bookmaker's clerk - if you intend to assist in a bookmaker's business.

If you intend to accept telephone bets, you must apply for a separate off-course endorsement on your registration.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for a corporate bookmaker's licence, you must:

  • be a suitable person to hold the licence
  • be a corporation
  • have adequate financial resources to operate the bookmaking business.

To be eligible for a bookmakers clerk, you must:

  • be at least 18 years old
  • hold a national police certificate.
