Busker / street performer permit - Ipswich City Council - Queensland

Description

You will need this permit to busk or provide entertainment in a public place for money or other type of reward. Busking is regulated to ensure it does not unreasonably impact upon residents and businesses.

Examples of activities which commonly require this permit include:

  • an instrument or multiple instruments, conventional or self-constructed
  • singing with or without musical instruments
  • dancing, clowning, juggling or puppetry
  • magic, living statue, comedy, or recitation (e.g., poetry or Shakespeare)
  • painting landscapes or chalk art
  • a circle act performance.

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Eligibility requirements

You will need to take out public liability insurance to a minimum value of $20 million and name your local council as an interested party. A copy of this document must be submitted before your application is given approval.

You will also need a site plan which outlines intended set up for the location requested accompanied by photographs of the proposed area.

To carry out busking activities you must ensure that you do not:

  • cause damage to any council property
  • unreasonably interfere with residential amenity
  • unreasonably interfere with the interests of commercial operators in the vicinity of the busking activity.

Some instruments may be prohibited under council local law.
