Additional information

Cats must be microchipped when:

  • sold (this is the seller's responsibility)
  • given away (this is the responsibility of the person giving away the cat)
  • before reaching the age of 12 weeks (this is the owner's responsibility).

If your cat is over 12 weeks old, and you are not selling or giving it away, you do not need to microchip it.

You may have to comply with local laws regarding cat enclosures. Contact your local council for information on whether you need to meet specific enclosure requirements.
