If you intend to own a cat, you may need to ensure it is registered with your local council.

If your local council requires cat registration, you will need to register your cat with your council within 14 days of it reaching 12 weeks of age, unless otherwise provided under local law. If you become an owner of a cat which is over 12 weeks of age, you will need to register your cat with your local council within 14 days, unless otherwise provided.

Cats must be microchipped when:

  • sold (this is the seller's responsibility)
  • given away (this is the responsibility of the person giving away the cat)
  • before reaching the age of 12 weeks (this is the owner's responsibility).
