Certificate of competence - Queensland

Description

You will need a certificate of competence if you intend to perform any of the following positions at a coal mine site:

  • deputy
  • site senior executive
  • open-cut examiner
  • first class mine manager
  • second class mine manager
  • ventilation officer.

This certificate shows that you have the appropriate skills and knowledge to carry out duties of your position.

Eligibility requirements

The requirements will vary depending on what position you occupy.

To be eligible you must:

  • meet the educational and practical experience standards relevant to the position
  • complete the written and oral examination process with a mark of above 70% (site senior executives do not need to pass the oral exam).

You will need to complete the appropriate application form and attach the required documents (including a work history attachment).

You must complete the application and examination process within 5 years of lodging your application. Otherwise, you will need to lodge a new application. This means that you will need to:

  • meet the educational and practical experience criteria in force at the time of lodging your new application
  • undertake the written and oral examination process from the beginning (e.g. if you had previously successfully completed the written examination but not the oral examination, you will need to re-sit the new written examination before proceeding to the oral examination).
