Collection authority - Queensland

Description

You will need this licence if you intend to keep a collection of dead animals. There are two categories of licence:

  • least concern animal collection authority - this is for personal use (including commercial art purposes but not other commercial purposes) and allows you to take (collect) a dead protected animal or animal part from the wild that has the conservation status of 'least concern wildlife' under the Act.
  • dead protected animal authority - this is generally for teaching and training purposes and allows you to keep and use dead animals or animal parts that have already been lawfully taken from the wild or kept in captivity.

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this licence, you must:

  • not use the animal for a commercial purpose (unless for a commercial art purpose under a least concern animal collection authority)
  • not have a criminal conviction that relates to animal welfare issues or related conservation matters within the past three years.

Ongoing eligibility requirements

You must submit a return of operations each return period (for least concern animal collection authorities).

You must keep records that are available upon request, including information such as the particulars of each dead protected animal or animal parts in your possession (for dead animal collection authorities).

Duration

Up to 6 months for a least concern animal collection authority and up to 5 years for a dead protected animal authority.
