How Do I Obtain It?
An application must be submitted in writing (there is no prescribed form) clearly stating the proposed activity/distribution area to The Regulator (Director-General, Department of Energy and Water Supply at the address given in this summary sheet. Information on application fees can be obtained in S196: Application for authority of the Electricity Act 1994 and Schedule 7: Fees payable to regulator of the Electricity Regulation 2006.

What is required after applying but before approval is granted?
Statutory process set out in the Electricity Act 1994 must be followed including:
the Regulator must advertise in a Queensland newspaper that application has been made and seek submissions;
the Regulator must be satisfied that you, as the applicant will operate the supply network and are a suitable person/company to hold a Distribution Authority;
the Regulator must also consider relevant government policies about environmental and energy issues, and the likely environmental effects of building and operating the supply network.
