This permit is required for:
- authority to enter land for the purposes of applying for a mining claim or mining lease over that land;
- hand mining for minerals other than coal with the consent of the landowner.
NB Some areas of the state are restricted. For further information contact the appropriate mining registrar. Until further notice this permit will only be issued for pegging of a mining lease or mining claim. (Native title implications).
A district prospecting permit is in respect of all land within the mining district.
The applicant is required to obtain written consent of each land owner upon whose lands/he wishes to enter. Unless consent of the land owner is obtained, the permit holder cannot enter within 100 metres laterally of a permanent building used for accommodation or business, community, sporting or recreational purposes or places of worship and within 50 metres laterally of a dam, principal stock yard, bore or artesian well, cemetery or burial place.
