You will need this registration if you intend to own a dog or keep dogs on your premises. You must register your dog with your council or local authority within 14 days of it reaching 12 weeks of age. If you become an owner of a dog which is over 12 weeks of age, you must register the dog within 14 days.
Other requirements that you may be required to comply with include, but are not limited to:
- fencing and enclosures
- dogs per household
- effective dog control
- dog identification.
There are seven prohibited breeds within Queensland. A person must not own, give or take possession of a prohibited breed. They are:
- Fila Brasileiro
- Dogo Argentino
- Japanese Tosa
- American Pit Bull Terrier
- Pit Bull Terrier
- Perro de Presa Canario
- Presa Canario.
