You need this permit if you intend to take, use and keep protected animals for educational purposes. Examples of educational activities include:
- the collection of road kill (protected animals) for educational purposes (e.g. zoology or veterinary science students)
- school field trip - spotlighting animals in a council reserve
- university field trip where animals are captured and released
- keeping native wildlife in a classroom for educational purposes.
This permit can only be issued for genuine educational purposes. A written statement detailing what educational and environmental messages will be delivered to students should be included with this application.
