Firearm collector's licence - Queensland

Description

You will require this licence if you intend to collect a firearm or weapon with an obvious and significant commemorative, historic, thematic or investment value. There are two categories of licence:

  • Weapons - for a person who intends to collect firearms and weapons.
  • Heirloom - for a person who has been handed down a single weapon as part of a will.

All weapons under this licence must be temporarily or permanently inoperable and must not be discharged.

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible you must:

  • have attained at least 18 years of age
  • complete the approved weapons safety course
  • be a fit and proper person with specific reference to mental state, misuse of drugs, firearm offences involving violence or threatened violence
  • have a genuine reason to engage in the collection and preservation or study of weapons
  • have a safe and secure place to store the weapon/s.
