Firearms dealer licence - Queensland

Description

You will need this licence if you intend to buy, sell or transfer weapons. This licence also allows you to act as a broker, which is an agent between the buyer and the seller.

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible you must:

  • be at least 18 years of age
  • reside only in Queensland
  • be a fit and proper person
  • have completed an approved safety course in weapons safety
  • have a safe and secure business premise to store the weapons

You must also provide:

  • written advice of the security precautions to be taken to ensure the safekeeping of all weapons
  • a copy of your business plan - you only need to include the pages related to addressing risk, police contact, firearm use and community safety
  • business registration certificate
  • details of all dealers associates
  • a supporting letter that demonstrates that you understand the legislation, details of the intended client and details of where you intend to carry out work
  • enterprise type details
  • written approval from the council certifying the intended local land use for the business is in compliance with the local by-laws.
