Introduction Agents Licence - Queensland


You require this licence when your business provides an introduction service for persons seeking a personal relationship or social outings with other persons, and those persons details are held on your business database.

If your business carries on business as outlined in sections 11-17 of the Introduction Agents Act 2001 you are not an introduction agent. Examples of these include:

  • persons carrying out activities with a community purpose
  • persons carrying out non profit activities
  • publishers of advertisements
  • information providers
  • organisers of social activities
  • persons providing neighbourhood information and welcome services
  • providers of prostitution.

Service type


A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Eligibility requirements

  • you must be at least 18 years of age; and
  • you must be a suitable person as outlined in Section 20 of the Act (Sections 21 and 22 outline disqualifying criteria for applicants).

NOTE: If you are notifying under the Mutual Recognition (Queensland) Act 1992 or the Trans Tasman Mutual Recognition (Queensland) Act 2003, you must be authorised to practise an occupation equivalent to the Queensland occupation covered by this licence in a participating State or Territory or in New Zealand.


This licence remains in effect for one, two or three years. You will be issued with a renewal notice approximately 6 weeks before the expiry date.


Application process

Submit an 'Introduction Agents Form 1 Application for an Introduction Agents Licence'.

If you are notifying under the Mutual Recognition (Queensland) Act 1992 or the Trans-Tasman Mutual Recognition (Queensland) Act 2003: submit an "Application for Mutual Recognition of certificate of registration/occupation" Mutual Recognition Form 2 and a copy of your current interstate licence.


You cannot transfer this licence.

Additional information

You should familiarise yourself with Sections 34-60 of the Act, which outlines restrictions on the operation of Introduction Agencies.

Fees are the same regardless of whether you, as the applicant, are:

  • an individual;
  • a group of individuals; or
  • a company.

A criminal history check will be conducted where a date and place of birth is required to be provided, This includes all individuals, partners, executive officers, business associates and nominees/managers or persons in charge.
