Licence to Act as a Dealer (Firearms) - Queensland


You require this licence to deal in firearms. You may also require a licence to sell explosives under the Explosives Act.

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Eligibility requirements

You must:

  • be at least 18 years of age,
  • have adequate knowledge of safety practices relating to the use and maintenance of weapons for the category of weapons applied for by completion of Weapons Act safety course,
  • not be disqualified by the Weapons Act from holding a licence,
  • be a fit and proper person with specific reference to mental state, misuse of drugs and/or firearms, offences involving violence or threatened violence, and not be subject to an order under the Domestic Violence Act 1989.

Your business premises and all storage and display facilities must comply with the minimum standards as prescribed within Section 30-38 Weapons Regulations 1996:

  • supply plans of premises and security,
  • have a registered business name (certificate of registration of a business) or company name,
  • provide an ASIC extract of office holders,
  • have local council approval for the premises.


This licence may remain in effect for a maximum term of five years.

Application process

You can obtain this licence by submitting a completed Form 1 Application for a Licence; Form 34 Dealers Associates, Form 1 Annexure Occupational Dealer and Form 30 Proof of Identity Declaration to a Queensland Police station. You can obtain copies of these forms from the website or from a Queensland Police station. Please contact Weapons Licensing Branch for further information. You must also submit all other required information as detailed.

Your business premises must be inspected prior to approval being issued.

A full disclosure letter will be sent to local council prior to issue of the Licence. It is highly advisable that Licensees contact the Inspections team, Weapons Licensing Branch, prior to making the application to discuss storage requirements. A restricted licence for no more than 20 category A, B and M weapons may be available under this licence.
