Licence to manufacture explosives - Queensland

Description

You will need this licence to undertake one of the following activities:

  • manufacture certain explosives at a designated location
  • purchase, possess and store certain explosives at a designated location.

There are three types of licences that can be issued depending on whether the explosives are in the following places:

  • an explosives factory
  • a place of use that is not an explosive factory, such as a mine site
  • a mobile manufacturing unit.

The licence for a mobile manufacturing units (MMUs) allows the transport of certain explosives and their ingredients. You must comply with the 'code of practice for mobile processing units' and the 'code of practice for storage and handling and explosives'.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this licence, you must:

  • be at least 18 years old
  • be an appropriate person
  • be able to read and understand the English language to the satisfaction of the Chief Inspector of Explosives.
  • comply with the relevant codes of practice and standards
  • ensure a current security clearance is held by the individual, directors, partners or nominated responsible person if the licence or permit is related to security sensitive explosives. 

This licence may be applied for by a person or a corporation.

If an individual is a person having an interest in a corporation and the corporation is the separate legal entity responsible for the intended explosives operations and activities, the individual must apply using the corporate licence application form.
