A licence is required to transport radioactive substances in Queensland.

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Eligibility requirements

You should contact Radiation Health to obtain information on the requirements as they relate to the specific type of application you intend to make.


A licence remains in effect for the period stated on the licence, but not greater than three years.

Application process

You can obtain this licence by completing the Application for a licence to transport radioactive substances form and submitting it to the Chief Executive at the address specified on the form.

Additional documentation will be necessary. Please discuss your proposed application with Radiation Health prior to submitting your application.

You must not transport a radioactive substance until a licence is granted. During consideration of a licence application the Chief Executive may ask questions about you, ask you to undergo a test or take other action refer to Section 61 of the Radiation Safety Act 1999.

It is recommended that you seek the advice of Radiation Health.


This licence cannot be transferred.
