Liquor industry training requirements - Queensland

Description

If you're employed (or seeking to become employed) in a liquor licensed venue, in a role involving the sale or supply of liquor, you must complete one of the following training courses:

  • responsible management of licensed venues (RMLV) -to work as an approved manager
  • responsible service of alcohol (RSA) - all other staff involved in the sale or supply of liquor.

Certain liquor licences require an approved manager to be onsite or reasonably available during trading hours. You will need approval from the Office of Liquor and Gaming Regulation (OLGR) to become an approved manager.

It is mandatory for liquor licensees (if they are individuals), approved managers and some permit holders to hold a current RMLV certificate that is no more than 3 years old.

It is mandatory for certain people to hold an RSA certificate.

An exception applies to volunteers serving or supplying alcohol at a venue under one of the following licences or permits:

  • community club licence
  • community other licence
  • community liquor permit
  • restricted liquor permit.

However, a licensee or permittee must take reasonable steps to ensure volunteers are under the general supervision of a person who has completed RSA training.
