From 1 July 2024, it is illegal for businesses to manufacture, supply, process or install engineered stone slabs, benchtops, and panels across Queensland workplaces. Exemptions can be sought if the work is controlled or carried out for genuine research or analysis, to sample and identify engineered stone, to dispose of engineered stone, or to remove, repair or make minor modifications to installed engineered stone.
Exemptions can be permitted under a national framework. If the work involves removing, repairing, making minor modifications to, or disposing of engineered stone, it is subject to notification to workplace health and safety regulators. The notification must describe the work to be carried out, as well as the frequency and duration of the work.
