Permit to light fire - Queensland

Description

A Permit to Light Fire is required for all fires not exempt under a Commissioner's Notification. Current exemptions include:

  • fires where the material to be burnt is less than 2 metres in any direction
  • cooking fires within a properly constructed fireplace
  • burning a dead beast
  • certain industry fires e.g. burning of sawmill waste, burning of standing cane (Note that specific conditions apply to these fires.

The Fire Warden will issue the permit, with conditions that must be met prior to, during and at the completion of the fire.

Eligibility requirements


The applicant must:

  • contact their local council to ensure that they meet any local laws which may apply to lighting and maintaining a fire
  • provide owners and/or occupiers of adjoining land with 72 hours notice of the intention to apply for a permit
  • complete the application form.

Duration

The duration of this permit and the conditions under which any fire lit and maintained under this permit varies with fire conditions and is determined on a case by case basis by the issuing Fire Warden.

Fees

No fees are payable for this permit.

Application process

By submitting a completed Application for Permit to light a fire (Form CSO 010) to your local fire warden (or in their absence, the chief fire warden). This form, including explanatory notes on its completion, can be downloaded from the website.

The local Fire Warden can be identified through typing in the address of where the fire is to be held in the Fire Warden Finder on the website.

The Fire Warden may inspect the site.

Transfer process

This permit cannot be transferred.
