Personal watercraft licence - Queensland

Description

You will need this licence to operate a personal watercraft (PWC) on Queensland waters. A PWC is a powered ship with a fully enclosed hull that does not take on water if capsized and is designed to be operated by a person standing, crouching or kneeling on it or sitting astride it. Examples of PWCs include jet-skis and wave-runners.

All licence holders have an obligation to ensure their PWC is in good condition, used safely and has the correct safety equipment.

Eligibility requirements

To operate a PWC in Queensland you must:

  • hold both a personal watercraft licence and recreational marine driver licence
  • or hold both a personal watercraft licence and a commercial marine licence as master
  • or have a licensed person on board who is able to take immediate control in the case of any trouble.
