You will need to obtain an inspection certificate or a final inspection certificate when you are undertaking work under a plumbing and drainage work permit.
Generally, work must be inspected either before being covered or no more than 5 days after a stage has been reached.
An inspection certificate:
- states that the permit work complies with the code requirements. Depending on the stage, it may also state that some or all of the work is operational and fit for use.
A final inspection certificate:
- certifies that the permit work is compliant, operational and fit for use. This certificate can be issued when either all work under a permit or a distinct part of the work is complete. If a final inspection certificate is given for part of the work authorised under a permit, a later final inspection certificate will be needed for the remainder of the work.
The plumbing or drainage work that is the result of permit work cannot be used unless an inspection certificate or final inspection certificate has been issued stating that the work is operational and fit for use.
