You will need this approval if you intend to undertake complex plumbing and drainage work (permit work). Examples of this work include:
- work associated with the construction of a new building or structure
- installing additional appliances or fixtures for a building connected to a combined drain
- installing additional appliances or fixtures for a building connected to a dual reticulated water supply provided by a water service provider
- work that uses a performance solution - under the National Construction Code Volume Three (Plumbing Code of Australia) or the Queensland Plumbing and Wastewater Code.
All plumbing work in Queensland is categorised as:
- permit work
- notifiable work
- minor work
- unregulated work
Only permit work requires an application to be lodged with your council or local authority for assessment. A useful tool in helping to decide if you need to lodge a plumbing application can be found here.
