Working with adults with disability card (yellow card) - Queensland

Description

You will be required to hold a yellow card if you intend to work with adults who have a disability. Holding a yellow card states that you have undergone criminal history screening.

A yellow card is mandatory for an engaged person at a funded non-government disability service provider or a National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) service provider. An engaged person includes:

  • employees
  • volunteers
  • students
  • contractors
  • executive officers, members of a board, management committee or other governing body.

It is the obligation of the service provider to ensure that all engaged persons hold a yellow card.

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Exemptions

A yellow card is not required by:

  • a person who is only providing disability services to children
  • registered health practitioners
  • consumers
  • tradespeople who are not employees
  • relatives of a consumer providing volunteer care for their relative.

Eligibility requirements

If you hold a blue card, you can apply for an exemption from holding a yellow card.
