Private assessment accreditation - Queensland

Description

You will need this accreditation to conduct inspections of regular enclosures, controlled areas and travel enclosures of exhibited animal authority holders.

This accreditation will only be granted in relation to species that you have relevant expertise and experience with and will allow you to:

  • conduct an inspection of all dealings related to these animal species
  • inspect and develop a private assessment report, to be forwarded to the administering agency as supporting information to grant, refuse or renew a licence.

Each accreditation holder must comply with the specific conditions listed on their licence. All accreditation holders are obligated to inform the department of any contraventions to the Act that they uncover throughout their assessments.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this accreditation you must be a suitable person to hold the accreditation and have proven expertise and experience in all the following areas:

  • interpreting and understanding legislative requirements
  • carrying out private assessments
  • preparing private assessment reports in a format that is logical and identifies relevant requirements of the Act
  • using a computer to type reports, submitting reports electronically, taking and submitting photos and experience in detailing findings of an inspection
  • inspecting facilities to identify risks relevant to those prescribed under the Act
  • writing clear, concise and well reasoned reports
  • knowledge of the animal species being applied for and the relevant risks associated with keeping that animal in captivity.

Ongoing eligibility requirements

You will need to keep a copy of each report for at least 3 years after it is prepared.
