Private health facility approval - Queensland

Description

You will need this licence if you intend to build a new private health facility (e.g. private hospitals and day procedure centres).

Private health facilities are places where patients are:

  • provided with medical, surgical or other prescribed treatment and then discharged
  • provided with prescribed services or treatments.

Once you have completed construction, you will then need to apply for a licence to operate the facility.

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible you must:

  • be a suitable person
  • ensure the proposed facility and health services proposed by the facility comply with the relevant standards. 

Duration

Approvals remain in force for not more than two years. An application to extend the term of the approval by a further two years may be made.
