Protected plant harvesting licence - Queensland


You require this licence if you intend to harvest, keep and trade in protected plants. This licence focuses on protecting species that face real risk, in particular:

  • threatened species - those native plants listed as critically endangered, endangered and vulnerable and near threatened species under the Act
  • special least concern species - least concern plant species subject to harvesting pressure because of their commercial value or their special characteristics (e.g. being slow growing or slow to reproduce).

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this licence you must ensure:

  • you are the landholder or have the written approval of the landholder on the land the plant is located
  • the proposed way of taking the plant is ecologically sustainable
  • the proposed activities are not likely to adversely affect the plants' survival in the wild
  • the proposed way of taking the plant complies with the protected plants' assessment guidelines.
