You will need this approval to operate a public swimming pool. Approval is required for swimming pools which are used for a commercial purpose or that are located on residential premises where the pool is used for more than two dwelling units, such as a townhouse complex. Examples include the following:
- aquatic centres
- learn to swim pools
- gym and health centre pools
- hydrotherapy pools (including flotation therapy pools, recovery pools)
- holiday accommodation pools
- club pools
- private school pools
- swimming pools under a body corporate of a group subdivision scheme (where there are three or more dwellings).
A public swimming pool that requires approval does not include a resort or residential complex that is predominantly occupied by permanent residents (i.e. more than 50% of residences within the complex have a minimum duration of stay of 6 months or longer).
