Radiation possession licence - Queensland


You require this licence if you intend to have the overall ownership and control of a radiation source. Radiation sources can include:

  • laser and ionising radiation equipment
  • sealed radioactive substances
  • unsealed radioactive substance.

This licence will be required before a radiation practice can be carried out including acquiring or using a radiation source.

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible you must:

  • be a suitable person to hold the licence
  • obtain a criminal history and security check
  • provide an approved radiation safety and protection plan.

Additional documentation will be necessary. Please discuss your proposed application with Radiation Health prior to submitting the application.

The operation must comply with relevant safety related requirements which may be site and practice specific. These may refer to Australian Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety Agency or National Health and Medical Research Council codes, or Australian or International standards. There are also requirements in relation to training of staff, administrative procedures, approval of facilities, equipment, etc.
