Radiation possession licence - Queensland


You will need this licence if you have the overall ownership and control of a radiation source. Radiation sources can include:

  • laser and ionising radiation equipment
  • sealed radioactive substances
  • unsealed radioactive substance.

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this licence, you must:

  • be a suitable person to hold the licence
  • obtain a criminal history and security check
  • have an approved 'Radiation Safety and Protection Plan' that outlines the radiation practice, the associated risks, how the risks will be managed and how the safety measures will remain effective.

To comply with Australian Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety Agency or National Health and Medical Research Council codes, or Australian or International standards, you must comply with site and practice specific safety requirements and requirements in relation to training of staff, administrative procedures, approval of facilities, equipment, etc.


This licence cannot be transferred.
