Registration as a professional engineer - Queensland

Description

You will need this registration to carry out a professional engineering service in Queensland or for Queensland (e.g. a design project carried out interstate or overseas for a Queensland based project).

A professional engineering service is an engineering service that requires or is based on the application of engineering principles and data to a design, or to a construction, production, operation, or maintenance activity.

There are two types of registration; practising and non-practising. To carry out professional engineering services a you must hold practising status.

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this registration, you must:

  • hold the relevant qualifications and competencies
  • satisfy the board that you are fit to practise as a registered professional engineer.

Duration

This registration will remain in effect until the last day of the financial year in which registration was granted.

Professional Engineers who hold registration in another jurisdiction may apply for registration in Queensland under mutual recognition. 

Engineers who believe they qualify to be registered under mutual recognition should contact the Board.
