Registration of architects - Queensland

Description

You will need this registration if you intend to:

  • use the title 'architect' or 'registered architect' in Queensland
  • hold yourself out to be an architect
  • use the words 'architectural services', 'architectural design services' or 'architectural design' to advertise or otherwise promote services provided by you.

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Eligibility requirements

You will be eligible for registration as an architect in Queensland, if you:

  • have passed the Architectural Practice Examination (APE), and can produce written evidence
  • have previously been registered in Queensland and are able to satisfy the agency that you are entitled to have your name restored to the Register (restoration)
  • are currently registered in another State or Territory of Australia or New Zealand and can provide the Board of proof of current registration (mutual recognition)
  • have passed the National Program of Assessment for Locally Experienced Practitioners or the Experienced Practitioner Assessment Overseas Practitioners
  • have satisfied the requirements under Mutual Recognition Arrangements between the architectural licensing authorities of the USA, Australia and NZ or the APEC Architecture Agreement with Japan, Singapore and Canada.

Ongoing eligibility requirements

You will need to comply with the continuing registration requirements if you intend to renew or restore your registration. The requirements include undertaking a total of 20 hours of continuing professional development which at least 10 years should be formal activities.

Duration

This registration remains in effect until the end of the financial year.

You can obtain this registration by submitting to the Board either a completed:

  • application for registration as an architect
  • application for registration pursuant to mutual recognition
  • application for restoration of registration.

Please note that the registration fee is paid in addition to the application fee.
