Registration of persons using animals for scientific purposes - Queensland

Description

You will require this registration if you intend to use an animal for scientific purposes. Scientific purposes are activities performed to acquire, develop or demonstrate knowledge or techniques in any scientific discipline, including:

  • teaching
  • field trials
  • environmental studies
  • research
  • diagnosis
  • product testing
  • production of biological products.

You will also be required to comply with the Australian code for the care and use of animals for scientific purposes.

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for registration, you must submit a written application for your proposed animal use to an animal ethics committee (AEC), and have written AEC approval. You will need a separate approval for each different activity or project.
