You will need to register a training contract to train and employ an apprentice or trainee.
As an employer, you must release the apprentice or trainee (during the period of a full-time or part-time apprenticeship or traineeship) to attend college or be removed from routine work for training delivery and assessment. You must pay them for this time.
You will need to contact the Fair Work Ombudsman about wages and employment conditions including wage rates, leave, and tool entitlements.
Apprentices and trainees are under probation for an initial period of their employment and training, during which time either party may terminate the apprenticeship or traineeship training contract for any reason within the applicable notice period.
You must lodge a training contract within 28 days after the day the apprenticeship or traineeship starts.
