Restricted or prohibited matter permit - Queensland

Description

You will need a permit if you intend to deal with restricted or prohibited matter. Prohibited or restricted matter includes:

  • diseases, viruses or parasites
  • invasive animals and plants (e.g. pest animal or weed)
  • noxious fish
  • insect pests.

Restricted matter is biosecurity matter found in Queensland and has a significant impact on human health, social amenity, the economy or the environment. A person or business may apply for a restricted matter permit for purposes such as commercial use, biological control or scientific research. A restricted matter permit will allow the dealings, under specific conditions that would otherwise be restricted by the category requirements.

Prohibited matter is biosecurity matter that is not found in Queensland, but would have a significant adverse impact on our health, way of life, the economy or the environment if entered into the state. If you need to deal with prohibited matter or a potential carrier, you can apply for a scientific research, controlled dealings permit or another type of prohibited matter prescribed under regulation.
