Security provider licence (class 1) - Queensland

Description

You will need this licence to offer the following security services:

  • bodyguard
  • private investigator
  • crowd controller
  • security officer (cash in transit, unarmed, monitoring, dog patrol).

If you are entering the industry prior to completing the required training, you can apply for a restricted licence. Restricted licence holders must be under the direct supervision of a licensed security provider who holds an unrestricted or open licence to perform the same function. A restricted licence is valid for a duration of six months and is not renewable and can only be applied for once. You must complete training and apply for an unrestricted licence within six months.

You can apply for a single function or multiple function licence.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this licence, you must:

  • be at least 18 years of age
  • pass the required training course, as described on the application form
  • be a suitable person.

A criminal history check must be done for each person whose date and place of birth are stated on the application form.

All security providers must be fingerprinted by the Queensland Police Service. After lodging your application, you will receive a letter from the agency that details the process for having your fingerprints taken.

You may be eligible to be licensed under mutual recognition laws if you hold a comparable licence within another Australian state or territory or within New Zealand.

Application process

Submit a Form 1-1 with the following:

  • documents to establish your identity - 100 points required (refer to list on application form) that has been certified and includes at least one primary document
  • two recent passport size photographs endorsed as a true photograph by a person who has known the applicant for at least 12 months
  • proof of completion of an approved training course (including units completed), for unrestricted applicants only.

Approval time

Processing time is between four and six weeks

Disqualified persons or entities

You are not suitable to hold this licence if you:

  • are currently disqualified from holding a licence or registration certificate
  • have been convicted within the past 10 years of a serious offence
  • are subject to a court issued control order because of involvement in serious criminal activity.
