Security Provider Licence - Class 2 - Queensland


You require a security providers licence (Individual Class 2) if you provide security advice (specific advice about specific risk involved at the specific location) and/or are a security equipment installer (install, repair, service or maintain security equipment).

You can apply for a single function or multiple function licence.

Eligibility requirements

What are the prerequisites to obtaining this authority?

You must EITHER:

be at least 18 years of age;


for a CLASS 2 Licence Security Equipment Installer ONLY

  • an apprentice or trainee security equipment installer (apprentice or trainee means an apprentice or trainee within the meaning of the Vocational Education, Training and Employment Act 2000.) A signed letter from the employer confirming this on letterhead is required.

If you are notifying under the Mutual Recognition (Queensland) Act 1992 or the Trans Tasman Mutual Recognition (Qld) Act 2003, you must be authorised to practice an occupation equivalent to the Queensland occupation covered by this licence in a participating State or Territory or in New Zealand.


This licence will remain in effect for 12 months or 3 years. You will be issued with a renewal notice annually or every 3 years, approximately 6 weeks before the expiry date.

Application process

How do I obtain it ?

Submit a "Application for a security provider licence Individual - Class 2" (Form 1-2).

You must submit the following documents with the application:

  • documents to establish your identification - 100 points required (refer to list on application form) that have been certified and must include at least 1 primary document;
  • two recent passport-size photographs endorsed as a true photograph by a person who has known the applicant for at least 12 months and is not related to them by birth or marriage.

If you are applying under the Mutual Recognition (Queensland) Act 1992 or Trans-Tasman Mutual Recognition (Qld) Act 2003 submit an "Application for a security provider class 2 - Individual licence - Mutual recognition" Mutual Recognition Form 3-2 and a copy of your current interstate licence.


Can it be transferred?

You cannot transfer this licence.

Additional information

NOTE: It is possible for you to amend your licence to authorise the carrying out of the function of an additional type of Security Provider Class 2 (other than a security firm).

You must provide:

  • a completed Form 1-2 which indicates the additional functions you will perform;
  • your current licence number; and
  • payment of applicable fee.

Applicants must undergo a criminal history check to confirm their suitability. The criminal history check applies to each person who appears on the application form. The fee applies to all applications and renewal notices.
