Special hazard fire system stream licence - Queensland

Description

You will need the appropriate licence class to undertake work associated with special hazard suppression systems. Special hazard fire systems activate to control fire using specialised means. Suppression, extinguishing or inerting systems use stored pressure, a chemical reaction or compressed gas to discharge or generate an aqueous solution, a chemical agent, a foam solution, a gaseous agent, hypoxic air and water.

The following classes are available:

  • certify
  • install and maintain.

You can apply for a licence class as a:

  • contractor - allows you to perform, supervise and enter into contracts for fire protection work
  • nominee supervisor - allows you to supervise work on behalf of a licensed company, but not to personally perform fire protection work
  • occupational - allows you to carry out fire protection work as an employee of a contractor licensed in the same licence class.

Eligibility requirements

Your requirements will vary depending on your category of licence. To be eligible, you will need to meet the appropriate:

  • technical requirements
  • experience requirements
  • managerial requirements
  • professional indemnity insurance requirements
  • financial requirements.

If you do not meet the technical qualifications, you may be able to obtain one through recognition of prior learning (RPL) by a registered training organisation (RTO). Please see the attached resources for specific information on these requirements.

If you are an interstate applicant, you may be eligible to obtain a licence through mutual recognition. If you are an international applicant, you may have to have an overseas qualification assessed for equivalency prior to applying.

To apply for this licence, you will need to fill out the licence application form, providing:

  • evidence of your qualifications
  • evidence of your experience
  • evidence of professional indemnity insurance
  • financial information showing that you meet the minimum financial requirements
  • proof of identity
  • the applicable fees.

Applications can take between 6 and 12 weeks to be processed, depending on their complexity

This licence cannot be transferred.
