Standard licence - Queensland

Description

You need this licence if you intend to keep and trade up to 10 class 1 animals. There are 243 species that require a standard animal licence. Please see 'Animals requiring a standard licence' in resources for a full list of class 1 animals.

You are not permitted to allow these animals to breed and need permission if you intend to dispose (e.g. sell or give away) an animal within six months of acquiring it.

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this licence you must:

  • be at least 13 years old
  • not have a criminal conviction that relates to animal welfare issues or related conservation matters within the past three years.

A licence may be issued to a minor (aged between 13 and 17 years of age) if the minor and the minors' legal guardian live at the same address where the wildlife will be kept and the guardian agrees to supervise the child's activities under the licence. The guardian and the minor must both complete and sign the hard copy 'under 18' application form.

Ongoing eligibility requirements

You must comply with the online record keeping requirements.

The completion of online records is required within 72 hours of a trade event (such as a buy/sell/giveaway/accept), or other events such as the birth, death or movement of a licensed animal. Notification will be required within 24 hours of an event that exceeds your approval for breeding, or numbers of animals kept (including excess dangerous snakes).
