Subagent registration - Debt collection and document serving - Queensland


You must register to work as a subagent for a field agent.  The registration lets you perform tasks on behalf of your employer.

Authorised activities

Once you register, you will be able to act on behalf of a licensed field agent to:

  • find and recover goods
  • collect debts
  • serve documents

You must not operate a trust account.

Alternatively, you can work as a collection agent if you only:

  • collect debts (and do not repossess goods or do process serving)
  • contact debtors over the phone or in writing.

You must have a subagent registration to do any other type of work as the employee of a field agent.

Applicants must be both suitable and eligible in order to obtain a registration.


Service type


A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Eligibility requirements

You must:

  • be at least 18 years of age
  • be a suitable person
  • be an eligible person.


This licence will remain in effect for 12 months or 3 years. You will be issued with a renewal notice annually or every 3 years approximately 6 weeks before the expiry date.


Application process

To apply for this registration, submit a Form 3-2: Application for a subagent registration certificate.

Your application must be accompanied by:

  • an application fee
  • a licence issue fee
  • a criminal history check fee
  • a certified copy of either birth certificate, birth certificate extract, passport, certificate of Australian Citizenship or drivers licence. Proof of identity can be certified by a Justice of the Peace, Commissioner for Declarations, barrister/solicitor or notary public.; (Note: You are not required to provide any of the above upon renewal)
  • two recent colour photographs. Each photograph must be at least 35 mm x 45 mm and not more than 40 mm x 50 mm in size, and certified by a person who is at least 18 years of age; and has known you for not less than 12 months immediately before the application; and is not related to you by birth or marriage.

The registration certificate application fee and registration certificate renewal fee are not refundable.


Can it be transferred?

You cannot transfer this registration.
