Tattooist licence - Queensland

Description

You will need this tattooist licence to perform body art tattooing procedures in Queensland.

Note that this licence does not authorise you to run a body art tattooing business, even if you work from home. If you want to operate a body art tattooing business, you will need a tattoo operator licence.

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this licence, you must:

  • be 18 years or older
  • be an Australian citizen or Australian resident
  • not be subject to a relevant control order or registered corresponding control order that restricts you from carrying on a business, engaging in an occupation, or performing an activity that requires a licence
  • not be convicted of a prescribed offence under the Act within the last ten years
  • undertake a criminal history check
  • hold a current certificate in Maintain Infection Prevention for Skin Penetration Treatments (HLTINF005).

By law, the police need to take your finger and palm prints. You will be contacted after you lodge your application form to explain what you need to do.

Appeal process

If your application is refused, the Office of Fair Trading will issue a notice of refusal and statement of reasons for the decision.

If you disagree with the decision, you may apply to the Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal for review.
