Taxi Service Licence - Queensland


You require this licence to operate a taxi service. You will require a separate taxi service licence to operate each taxi.

Service type


A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Eligibility requirements

You must hold an "Operator Accreditation for Taxi Services"

If you intend to drive the taxi you must hold Driver Authorisation.


This licence will remain in effect for 5 years and may be renewed for successive terms of 5 years. (However, if you request it, the licence may be issued for a shorter period).


Application process


Due to changes to the personalised transport industry in Queensland, which were introduced on 5 September 2016, Government will not be releasing any new taxi service licences before 2018.

Transfer process


You must transfer to a person who holds an operator accreditation for taxi services.

You must advise the Department of the transfer of the licence within 14 days using the appropriate form. You can obtain copies of the transfer form from your reginal office.

When a taxi licence or limousine licence in Queensland is transferred or agreed to be transferred, you are required to pay transfer duty.

New taxi service licences are sold by tender.
