Teacher registration - Queensland

Description

You will need to be registered if you intend to teach in a Queensland school. There are two types of registration:

  • provisional registration
  • full registration.

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for provisional registration, you must:

To be eligible for full registration, you must:

  • satisfy the eligibility requirements for provisional registration
  • successful demonstration of the professional standards for full registration
  • completion of a provisional to full recommendation report
  • have at least 1 year (200 days) of teaching in recognised schools in the past 5 years in Australia, New Zealand or another country delivering the Australian national curriculum developed and administered by the Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA) or a syllabus developed, revised or purchased for a senior subject or P-10 subject by the Queensland Curriculum and Assessment Authority (QCAA).

If you hold current teacher registration or accreditation in another Australian state or territory, or in New Zealand, you may apply for mutual recognition.

Duration

5 years for full registration. The initial period of provisional registration is 2 years.

Expiry

Note, if you do not meet the requirements for full registration before your provisional registration period expires (2 years) you may apply to extend it once only for a further 2 years.

This licence cannot be transferred.

Disqualified persons or entities

You are prohibited from applying for this registration if you are deemed an excluded person. An excluded person refers to a person who is subject to:

  • offender reporting obligations
  • an offender prohibition order
  • a disqualification order made under child protection legislation
  • a sexual offender order.

An excluded person also includes a person who:

  • is prohibited from reapplying for registration by a practice and conduct order
  • has been convicted of a serious offence, unless that person has been issued with an eligibility declaration.
