Tobacco retailer responsibilities - Queensland


You will need to meet the minimum requirements if you intend to sell tobacco or smoking products. Smoking products include tobacco products prepared for consumption (e.g. cigarettes, cigars, roll-your-own tobacco), herbal cigarettes, loose smoking blend, personal vaporisers (e.g. electronic or e-cigarettes, e-cigars, vape pens), personal vaporiser related products, smoking related products or a package or carton of any of these things.

Tobacco retailers must:

  • not sell smoking products to anyone under the age of 18
  • keep all smoking products out of sight
  • have one single point of sale in your retail outlet
  • comply with mandatory signage requirements
  • not sell ice-pipes, bongs or e-cigarettes containing nicotine
  • supply your staff with adequate training.
