Tow truck driver certificate - Queensland

Description

You will need this certificate to drive a tow truck attending:

  • the scene of an incident
  • a seized police vehicle
  • remove vehicles from private property.

For crash towing, this certificate authorises you to prepare the motor vehicle for towing and to clean up the scene of the incident efficiently and safely.

A tow truck driver can only operate under the authority of a holder of a tow truck licence.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this certificate, you must:

  • be at least 18 years old
  • be medically fit and capable to perform the role
  • hold a driver licence authorising you to drive the class of vehicle relevant to the certificate you are applying for
  • have continuously held the driver licence for at least three years immediately prior to application
  • successfully pass the relevant operational test in a vehicle of the class you are applying for
  • have a suitable criminal history and traffic history.

A current New Zealand driver licence with a vehicle recovery endorsement may be recognised and transferred to the equivalent Queensland Tow Truck Driver Certificate for the same vehicle classes.
