Tree and vegetation approval - Sunshine Coast Regional Council - Queensland

Description

You will require this approval if you intend to clear or work near protected trees and vegetation on private property. Protected vegetation includes trees and vegetation which are indigenous to Australia.

Your local council may have specific restrictions on interference with significant trees, which includes undertaking works nearby. Significant trees might have cultural, historical or horticultural significance, have large trunk diameter or form part of a canopy.

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Exemptions

You do not need approval if the vegetation removal is covered and / or conditioned by another permit:

  • Clearing associated with a building approval - once it has been submitted to council and the total amount of clearing does not exceed 600 metres squared.
  • Clearing as conditioned within a development permit.

Vegetation may also be protected by:

  • covenants
  • drainage easements
  • development permit conditions.

Your local council may ask you to provide supporting documents and images along with your application for approval.

If you are issued with approval, your local council may ask you to complete an online declaration of compliance for approved works to protected vegetation.

Additional information

You will require a state government clearing permit if you intend to clear or work near:

  • protected trees and vegetation on public property
  • remnant vegetation from a private property (remnant vegetation refers to areas of intact or untouched native vegetation or bushland).

All marine plants, such as mangroves, are protected under state legislation.
