Veterinary premises registration - Queensland


You will need this registration to use premises as veterinary premises or operate an ambulatory practice. There are four levels of veterinary premises:

  • veterinary house call practice - allows you to respond to veterinary house calls
  • veterinary consulting / examination rooms - does not allow general anaesthetic procedures
  • veterinary surgery / clinic - allows surgery and procedures
  • veterinary hospital / centre - allows 24 hour emergency medical and surgical care.

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this registration, you must:

  • complete a self-assessment document to ensure you will comply with the relevant minimum standards for your premises type
  • have a suitable criminal history
  • ensure the premises is suitable for use for veterinary care.


The approval remains current as long as the premises meet the required standards and your approval is not suspended or cancelled.
