Wildlife farming licence - Queensland


This licence is required for farming wildlife (crocodiles, emus, butterflies, venomous snakes, water buffalo).

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Eligibility requirements

Applicants must have suitable wildlife housing.

Applicants must complete the Pre-design/pre-lodgement meeting application form and contact Permit and Licence Management for specialist advice.


This licence remains in effect for up to one year or not more than three years, depending on the applicants requirements and payment unless sooner revoked, suspended or surrendered.


Application process

You can obtain this licence by submitting a completed Wildlife Farming Licence application form to the nearest wildlife licence issuing centre. For details of your nearest issuing centre, please contact Permit and Licence Management.

Before approval is granted the property will be inspected by a Regional or District Officer.

Transfer process

This licence cannot be transferred.

Copies of the "Code of Practice Crocodile Farming" and "Code of Practice Emu farming" can be obtained from the Department website.

  • S152 to S165 of the Nature Conservation (Wildlife Management) Regulation 2006
  • other sections may apply depending on species.
